Save Money at the Pump With These Fuel Saving Tips
With national gas prices on the rise, who wouldn’t want to put a little extra cash back in their own pocket try these helpful tips?
Choose The Right Type Of Gasoline
Unless your car requires premium gasoline, filling up your car with high-octane fuel is a waste of money. Premium fuel does not improve your vehicle's fuel economy or performance. Not sure if your vehicle requires premium gasoline, look in your owner's manual for the recommended type.
Make Sure The Gas Cap Is On Tightly
Loose, missing or damaged gas caps will cause gasoline to evaporate. Replace a faulty cap and be sure to tighten well each time you add fuel to prevent evaporation.
Don’t Fill Up If You See The Tanker Delivering To The Station
When the station is receiving a fuel delivery to their underground tanks, sediments can be stirred up and sent into your vehicle. Sediment in gas can clog fuel filters and fuel injectors, causing poor performance and possible damage.
Park In Garage Or Shade
The hot sun not only heats the interior of your car, but also can aid in the evaporation of fuel from the tank. Whenever possible be sure to park in the shade or a garage to keep the temperature down.
Clean Out Your Trunk
Added weight from unnecessary items being stored in the trunk can cause your vehicle to use more gasoline. Cleanout and remove any items that would not be needed in an emergency to reduce the weight.
Regulate Tire Pressure
Be sure to keep tires at the recommended pressure listed in your owner's manual. Underinflated tires can lead to poor fuel mileage. Check your tire pressure when the tires are cold. A good time is early in the morning before driving.
Replace Air Filters
Keep the engine's air filter clean and replace when needed. When the engine air filter clogs with dirt, dust and bugs, it causes your engine to work harder and your car becomes less fuel efficient.
Keep Up With Maintenance
By staying current with your vehicle maintenance schedule the performance of your vehicle will be prolonged and will help to cut down on fuel usage.
